«Antigone» is the tragedy by Jean Anouilh in a school edition with extracts, published by Bordas Editions in paperback (125 pages, in French).
The play recreates the myth of Antigone: after the death of her brothers Eteocles and Polynices, Creon forbids burying Polynices and she defies the order to give him burial. The edition brings together extracts from the play with a study on the life of Jean Anouilh and his work, methodical analysis, notes, questions and themes for reflection.
This edition belongs to the Univers des Lettres collection; the didactic material is signed by Jacques Monférier.
For secondary school students approaching French theatre and for readers who prefer an edition with a didactic orientation.

Jean Marie Lucien Pierre Anouilh was a French dramatist and screenwriter whose career spanned five decades. Though his work ranged from high drama to absurdist farce, Anouilh is best known for his 1944 production of Sophocles' Antigone, which, though performed without objection by censors, was nevertheless seen as an attack on Marshal Pétain's Vichy government. His plays are less experimental than those of his contemporaries, having clearly organized plot and eloquent dialogue. One of France's most prolific writers after World War II, much of Anouilh's work deals with themes of maintaining integrity in a world of moral compromise.
