«Amanecer con hormigas en la boca» is the crime novel by Miguel Barroso, published by Debolsillo in hardback (288 pages, in Spanish).
Set in Cuba in the last years of Batista, the novel portrays an island dominated by the mafia, casinos and political corruption, on the eve of Fidel Castro's revolution. With the codes of American crime fiction transplanted to a Latin setting, the plot combines gangsters, shady deals and marginal characters in an atmosphere of daiquiris and smoke.
The novel was published in April 2005. The work belongs to the Ave Fénix collection from Debolsillo. The film Hormigas en la boca is based on this novel.
For lovers of crime fiction set in prerevolutionary Cuba.
