In this first part of Joachim Meyerhoff's acclaimed trilogy, the reader accompanies the young protagonist in his search for a place in an American host family. From the first moment, he faces the cultural differences with the young people of the big city. After presenting himself as a simple and religious country boy, he ends up in Laramie, Wyoming, surrounded by prairies, horses and the Rocky Mountains. However, a call from his home in northern Germany brings him back to his family and a grief that he can only overcome by returning to the United States.
