«Alentejo Blue» is the contemporary novel by Monica Ali, published by Black Swan in paperback (304 pages, in English).
In Mamarrosa, a village in the Portuguese Alentejo, the lives of residents and visitors intersect in a choral narrative. Teresa longs to escape, the Potts family flees its problems, Vasco mourns his American wife, and an English tourist fantasises about another life. The return of Marco Afonso Rodrigues, the prodigal son, unleashes jealousy, passions and disillusionment.
The first edition of the work appeared in 2006 and this edition was published in 2007. The cover presents Monica Ali as the bestselling author of «Brick Lane».
Recommended for readers of contemporary fiction and for those seeking choral novels with a rural setting.
