«Ainsi mentent les hommes» is a collection of short stories by Kathrine Kressmann Taylor, published by Le Livre de Poche in paperback (153 pages, in French).
The volume brings together four stories featuring teenagers who, faced with authoritarian parents, frustrated teachers and lying adults, find solace only in nature. Humiliation, remorse, melancholy and loneliness run through these brief tales about the difficulty of growing up and human contradictions.
The French translation is by Laurent Bury; the original work, in English, appeared in 2004 and this French edition dates from 2006.
Aimed at readers of short fiction and those who want to read in French the author of Inconnu à cette adresse.
Kathrine Kressmann Taylor or Kressmann Taylor was an American writer, known mostly for her Address Unknown (1938), a short novel written as a series of letters between a Jewish art dealer, living in San Francisco, and his business partner, who had returned to Germany in 1932. It is credited with exposing, early on, the dangers of Nazism to the American public.
