«Agosto» is the contemporary fiction novel by Rubem Fonseca, published by Editorial Thassàlia in paperback (324 pages, in Spanish).
The novel transports the reader to Rio de Janeiro in August 1954, as the political crisis surrounding President Getúlio Vargas approached its denouement. The narrative blends fictional characters and plots with the historical events that marked the final days of that government, in a climate of great social tension.
Originally published in 1995, this Spanish edition features the translation by Manuel de Sá Brito.
