«Abuelita Opalina» is the children's novel by María Puncel, published by Ediciones SM in paperback (96 pages, in Spanish).
Miss Laura asks her pupils to write an essay about their grandmother. Isa doesn't have one, so she invents her Granny Opalina and ends up in a real mess. The novel humorously portrays family relationships and champions the importance of grandparents, with children's imagination as the guiding thread.
Fifth title in the El Barco de Vapor Azul collection, with illustrations by Margarita Puncel. Winner of the Lazarillo Prize for creation in 1971.
For readers aged 7 to 9, works well as a read-aloud at home or in the classroom.
