«A Gaiola de Ouro» is Shirin Ebadi's essay on the Iranian revolution, published in paperback (250 pages, in Portuguese) by A Esfera dos Livros.
The starting point is the friendship between Shirin and Pari in pre-revolutionary Iran. Pari's three brothers take opposite paths: one tied to the shah's army, another a persecuted communist, and a third in the war against Iraq. Ebadi links these lives with her own experience and with Iran's history up to Ahmadinejad.
