«The Planets / Sinfonia Da Requiem» is the compilation by Simon Rattle with the Philharmonia Orchestra and the CBSO, released in 2003 by EMI Classics on CD.
«The Planets», by Gustav Holst, evokes in seven movements the astrological character of the planets; highlights include «Mars, the Bringer of War» and «Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity». «Sinfonia da Requiem», by Benjamin Britten, is an intense and expressive score. Simon Rattle conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
Recordings from 1981 and 1986 remastered in 2003 for the Encore series; includes «The Planets», op. 32, and «Sinfonia da Requiem», op. 20.
For lovers of classical music and of the twentieth-century British orchestral repertoire.
