«Peer Gynt Suites 1 & 2 / Holberg Suite» is the album by Edvard Grieg released by Symphony on CD.
The CD brings together the two orchestral suites that Grieg prepared from his incidental music for Henrik Ibsen's Peer Gynt, full of descriptive scenes and expressive melodies. The Holberg Suite completes the programme as a tribute to eighteenth-century Baroque music and shows a more classical side of the Norwegian composer.
The recording is by the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Libor Pešek. The cover indicates DDD digital recording.
It works as a gateway to Grieg for those who do not know him or want a first approach to his orchestral music.
