«Madame Butterfly» is the opera by Giacomo Puccini recorded by Raina Kabaivanska and the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, on CD (Albany Music Dist. Inc., 1996).
The opera tells the story of Cio-Cio-San, a Japanese geisha known as Madame Butterfly, who marries the American officer F.B. Pinkerton in Nagasaki. Her devotion and waiting clash with abandonment and social conventions, in a score of great lyrical and orchestral intensity.
Double CD with Nazzareno Antinori, Alexandrina Milcheva and Nelson Portella, together with the Bulgarian National Choir. Gabriele Bellini conducts the choir and orchestra. Recording made in Sofia.
