The drama centres on Cio-Cio-San, the young woman known as Butterfly, and her love for the American officer Pinkerton, in traditional Japan. Waiting, loyalty and the clash between cultures shape a story of love and sacrifice.
Recorded in July 1962 at the RCA Italiana studios in Rome, with Leontyne Price as Cio-Cio-San, Richard Tucker as Pinkerton and their Orchestra and Chorus under the direction of Erich Leinsdorf.
This historic 1962 recording will appeal to opera lovers and followers of Leontyne Price and Richard Tucker.
