«H.M.S. Pinafore» is the album by Gilbert & Sullivan with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, released in 2001 by Naxos Historical, on CD.
Comic opera in two acts with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W. S. Gilbert. Set aboard the H.M.S. Pinafore, it tells of the love between Josephine, the captain's daughter, and sailor Ralph Rackstraw, against the plan to marry her to Sir Joseph Porter. It satirises favouritism and unmerited promotion in the Navy.
1948 recording, mono (ADD), with the New Promenade Orchestra conducted by Isidore Godfrey. Great Operetta Recordings series; catalogue 8.110175.
For fans of classic operetta and historic Gilbert and Sullivan recordings.
