«HMS Pinafore» is the Gilbert & Sullivan album that includes «Trial by Jury», released by HMV Classics on double CD.
HMS Pinafore satirises the rigidity of social classes in the British Navy: aboard the eponymous ship, Captain Corcoran, his daughter Josephine and sailor Ralph Rackstraw star in a love triangle. «Trial by Jury» completes the edition: a judicial parody about a lawsuit for breach of promise of marriage.
Conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent; performers: Glyndebourne Festival Chorus and Pro Arte Orchestra. CD1: 57:38; CD2: 53:20. Recordings from 1958 and 1961; digital remastering from 1987.
For fans of classical music and British comic opera by Gilbert and Sullivan.
