«Deserter's Songs» is the album by Mercury Rev, released in 1998 by Pias, on CD.
The album presents orchestrated pop with arrangements of horns, strings and keyboards, plus a musical saw, and achieves a cinematic, dreamlike atmosphere. It combines psychedelia, 60s pop and folk-rock, and includes collaborations by Garth Hudson and Levon Helm (The Band), with tracks such as «Goddess On A Hiway» and «Opus 40».
Produced by Dave Fridmann and Jonathan Donahue, mastered by Greg Calbi; the original recording was made on 35 mm magnetic film.
Ideal for collectors of 90s indie rock and for those who enjoy orchestral pop with influences from The Flaming Lips.
