Andrea Chénier is an opera in four acts by Italian composer Umberto Giordano, with a libretto by Luigi Illica. The opera, set during the French Revolution, tells the story of the poet Andrea Chénier, his love for Maddalena de Coigny, and his tragic fate during the Reign of Terror. This recording, released in 1990, features Renata Tebaldi, Mario del Monaco, and Ettore Bastianini, along with the Orchestra and Chorus of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, conducted by Gianandrea Gavazzeni. A classic and moving performance of one of Giordano's most beloved operas.
