«A Portrait of Champion Jack Dupree» is the blues compilation by Champion Jack Dupree, released in 2000 by Rounder Europe on CD.
A compilation bringing together fourteen recordings from the pianist's late period, after his return to New Orleans following thirty years in Europe. His conversational piano style portrays characters, romance and good times, without shying away from the harsh realities of racism and poverty. Highlights include «Freedom», «Skit Skat» and «Dupree Special».
24-bit digital remastering from the original analogue or digital sources, produced by Ron Levy with accompaniment from a New Orleans band.
Will appeal to fans of classic blues and New Orleans piano blues who want to discover the late period of one of the genre's pioneers.
