«Giordano: Marcella» is the filmed opera by Umberto Giordano, directed by Alessio Pizzech, with Serena Daolio, Danilo Formaggia and Pierluigi Dilengite, on DVD.
Marcella, a humble girl, and the painter Giorgio share an idyll that breaks when the plot reveals that her true love is an incognito prince. The work evokes the lyricism of La traviata and La rondine; this version was reconstructed from Giordano's manuscript, as the original score was destroyed in the Second World War.
Filmed at the Palazzo Ducale in Martina Franca during the Festival della Valle d'Itria (August 2007). Musical direction by Manlio Benzi. Subtitles in Italian and English. Duration: 66:51.
