Christianna Brand was born in British Malaya and spent much of her childhood between England and India.
Before becoming a renowned writer, she worked in diverse roles including model, dancer, shop assistant, and governess.
Her most iconic work is the mystery novel Green for Danger, featuring the character Inspector Cockrill.
Throughout her prolific career, she wrote under several pseudonyms such as Mary Ann Ashe, Annabel Jones, and China Thompson.
She was a key figure in the crime genre, serving as chair of the Crime Writers' Association from 1972 to 1973.
