«Zwei von zwei» is the contemporary novel by Andrea De Carlo, published by Diogenes Verlag AG in paperback (448 pages, in German).
Set in Milan in 1968, the novel follows the friendship between Mario and Guido, two young men who meet at school. Guido, rebellious and full of utopias, fascinates Mario; together they experience political revolt and first love, until their paths diverge. De Carlo turns that friendship into a generational portrait about ideals and adult life.
The Italian original, «Due di due», was published in 1989; the translation is by Renate Heimbucher and the volume corresponds to number 22584 of the Diogenes-Taschenbuch collection.
For those interested in contemporary Italian narrative and the climate of 1968, with its utopias and rebellions.
