Synopsis of Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth

«Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth» is the historical biography by Reza Aslan, published by Verso Books in paperback (336 pages, in English).

Reza Aslan examines Jesus of Nazareth as a first-century Jewish preacher in a Palestine dominated by Rome and shaken by apocalyptic fervour. The author contrasts the gospels with historical sources and explains how the early Church turned his figure into that of a spiritual teacher, concealing his political and revolutionary message.

The book was nominated for the Andrew Carnegie Medal (2014) and the Goodreads Choice Award (2013). It was originally published in 2013; this edition is from 2014.

For readers of history, religion and biography interested in a contextual approach to the historical Jesus.
