«Victoria» is the love novel by Knut Hamsun, published by Calmann-Lévy in paperback (188 pages, in French).
A love story between Johannes, the miller's son, and Victoria, the daughter of the manor's lord. Set in rural Norway, it combines lyricism and melancholy: class differences and the protagonists' acts of cruelty mark their relationship. A work with an emotive atmosphere and a bittersweet vision of desire and loss.
Work originally published in 1898 under the title «Victoria: En kjærlighedshistorie»; this French edition was published in 1994. Its author received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1920.
Suitable for readers of Scandinavian classics and romantic novels with social and literary depth.
