«Verstand und Gefühl» is the classic novel by Jane Austen published by Insel in paperback (449 pages, in German).
After the death of their father, sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood are left in a precarious financial situation. Jane Austen contrasts Elinor's serene judgment with Marianne's impulsive passion, and their romantic experiences show how money, appearances and feelings clash in English society of the time.
Translation by Angelika Beck, with illustrations by Hugh Thomson. 1994 edition from the Insel Taschenbuch collection; the work was originally published in English as Sense and Sensibility in 1811.
For readers of classic and romantic fiction, particularly those seeking Jane Austen in German.
Hugh Thomson is a British travel writer, filmmaker and explorer. His The Green Road into the Trees: A Walk Through England won the 2014 Wainwright Prize for nature and travel writing.
