«Veronika decide morir» is Paulo Coelho's novel about madness, published by Planeta in paperback (229 pages, in Spanish).
Veronika is a young woman who seemingly has everything: a job, looks, suitors and a trouble-free life; yet she is not happy. She decides to die and, after the attempt, wakes up in a psychiatric hospital. There she discovers that every second of existence is a choice between moving forward or giving up, and that perhaps she still has a reason to live.
This Spanish edition was published in 2000. The original Portuguese title is «Veronika decide morrer» (1998); the translation is by Montserrat Mira. Second title in the «On the Seventh Day» series.
A work for readers of Paulo Coelho and contemporary fiction interested in madness, mental health and the search for meaning.
