«Tradicions Patriòtiques» is a historical essay by Joan Amades, published by El Mèdol in paperback (97 pages, in Catalan).
Tradicions Patriòtiques brings together the legendary imaginary of Catalonia: it narrates how some of its emblems were born and rescues notable episodes from popular memory. Joan Amades recovers traditions and legends that help explain Catalan identity from the folklorist's perspective.
Facsimile edition published in 2001 of the work that appeared in Barcelona in 1933, with an introduction by Ramon Felipó. Number 9 in the Biblioteca de Tradicions Populars collection.
For readers interested in Catalan folklore and the origin of Catalonia's symbols.

Joan Amades i Gelats was a Catalan ethnologist and folklorist. An autodidact, he worked at the historical archive of the city of Barcelona and at the Museum of Industry and Popular Arts of the same city. From 1956 onwards, he collaborated with UNESCO. He was also an important promoter of Esperanto and founded the Federació Esperantista Catalana. Perhaps the most important book in his large bibliography is Costumari Català, the main work for the study of Catalan popular culture.
