«Tourbillon» is the novel by American writer Shelby Foote, published by Editions Gallimard in paperback (325 pages, in French).
The novel follows Luther Eustis, a Southern farmer who at fifty abandons his family to flee to a desert island with a young woman. Narrated by multiple voices, the story delves into the tensions of a rural community in the American South —religion, poverty, prejudice— and into guilt and redemption.
Originally published as Follow Me Down (1950), it belongs to Gallimard's L'Imaginaire collection. Translation by Maurice-Edgar Coindreau and Hervé Belkiri-Deluen, with an epilogue by J.M.G. Le Clézio.
