This book deals with the theme of death and was first published in 1975 by the same publisher. The author presents a sincere search with a very poetic style. Like the text, the illustration is beautiful and hard. The philosophy of death expressed and the symbolism used are inaccessible to children. Michel Déon offers us a non-confessional portrait of an implacable, painful and illogical death, not to say absurd, and all the more tragic as it is the death of a child, Thomas. The publisher would have done better to present this excellent volume for adults and young adults in its collection "Les Essais", instead of turning it into a children's story. This edition is enriched with a supplement of a few pages: test, information, games.
Michel Déon was a French novelist and literary columnist. He published over 50 works and was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Prix Interallié for his 1970 novel, Les Poneys sauvages. Déon's 1973 novel Un taxi mauve received the Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française. His novels have been translated into numerous languages.
