«Thinks...» is the contemporary fiction novel by David Lodge, published by Penguin in paperback (352 pages, in English).
At the University of Gloucester, Ralph Messenger, a cognitive scientist, and Helen Reed, a novelist in mourning, feel a mutual attraction that clashes with their principles. Their conversations pit science against literature, and the possibility of infidelity tests their convictions about consciousness and the human mind.
The novel was originally published in 2001; the Penguin Books edition with this ISBN appeared in May 2002.
For readers of contemporary fiction and campus novels, with an interest in the clash between cognitive science and literature.

David John Lodge was an English novelist and critic. He was a literature professor at the University of Birmingham until 1987, and some of his novels satirise academic life, notably the "Campus Trilogy" – Changing Places: A Tale of Two Campuses (1975), Small World: An Academic Romance (1984) and Nice Work (1988). The latter two were shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Another theme is Roman Catholicism, beginning from his first published novel The Picturegoers (1960).
