«The Upside Down Boy / El niño de cabeza», the bilingual children's book by Juan Felipe Herrera, in hardback (31 pages).
Juanito, son of farm workers, moves with his family to the city to start school. Everything seems upside down to him: he eats when it is recess and plays when it is time to eat, and he gets tongue-tied when speaking English. An understanding teacher and his family help him find his voice through poetry, art and music.
Edition with text in English and Spanish and illustrations by Elizabeth Gómez; autobiographical account of the author's childhood.
Recommended for children and young adult readers, especially those facing a new school environment or a migration experience.
