Synopsis of The Forge
La forja, el primer volumen de la trilogía 'La forja de un rebelde', narra la infancia y juventud del protagonista hasta 1914. La ciudad de Madrid tiene una presencia notable en la vida de Arturo, quien vive con su madre cerca de la Plaza de Oriente. Estudia en el Instituto de San Isidro, frecuenta la iglesia de Santiago y el cine Callao, juega en la calle Lepanto y disfruta de lugares como el Rastro y la Casa de Campo. En este entorno, se vislumbran las divisiones sociales que más tarde estallarán. La familia del protagonista se divide por una herencia, y Arturo encuentra sus primeros trabajos y se enfrenta a sus jefes, forjando así su espíritu rebelde.

Arturo Barea Ogazón was a Spanish journalist, broadcaster and writer. After the Spanish Civil War, Barea left with his wife Ilsa Barea to live in exile in England where he died. His best-known work is his three-part autobiography La forja de un rebelde .
