Maggie O'Farrell's novel 'The Distance Between Us' tells a story of family and emigration set between Hong Kong and the Scottish Highlands. The plot follows Stella, who flees London to confront a childhood secret that has marked her life and twinned her destiny with her sister's. Jake, on the other hand, arrives from Hong Kong to Britain in search of the father he never knew. When Stella and Jake meet, their lives change forever, painfully revealing Stella's past. This moving story explores the complexities of family relationships and how the past can influence the present.
