«Suite française» is the historical novel by Irène Némirovsky, published by Folio in paperback (544 pages, in French).
The work is divided into two parts: the first recounts the exodus from Paris in June 1940, when families from different classes flee in disorder along bombed roads; the second is set in a village occupied by German troops, where social tension, small cowardices and gestures of solidarity come to the fore.
Posthumous work published in 2004, part of the «Suite française» series (two parts). This Folio Plus Classique edition includes a dossier by Lucile Sévin and an image reading by Bertrand Leclair.
Edition recommended for the French baccalauréat, useful for literature students and readers interested in the Second World War.

Irène Némirovsky was a novelist of Ukrainian Jewish origin who was born in Kiev, then in the Russian Empire. She lived more than half her life in France and wrote in French, but was denied French nationality. Arrested as a Jew under the racial laws – which did not take into account her conversion to Roman Catholicism – she died in Auschwitz at the age of 39. Némirovsky is best known for the posthumously published Suite française.
