«Si ce livre pouvait me rapprocher de toi» is the novel by Jean-Paul Dubois, published by Points in paperback (224 pages, in French).
Paul Peremülter, disillusioned and broke, sets off on a journey with no fixed destination to feel alive again. What begins as an extravagant adventure leads him into the dark forest of his origins, where he uncovers secrets always kept from him; the story culminates in the forests of Quebec.
Originally published in 1999, this French edition appeared in 2000; its cover promotes the film Le Fils de Jean, directed by Philippe Lioret.
For readers of contemporary French fiction interested in tales of travel, identity, and family memory.
Jean-Paul Dubois is a French journalist and author. He won the Prix Goncourt in 2019 for Tous les hommes n'habitent pas le monde de la même façon, a novel told from the perspective of a prisoner looking back on life. The jury compared Dubois to John Irving and William Boyd, who wrote books that were both popular and critical successes.
