«Shakespeare cuenta» is the prose adaptation of Shakespeare's plays written by Charles and Mary Lamb, published by Espasa-Calpe in paperback (177 pages).
The Lamb siblings rewrite in prose a selection of William Shakespeare's plays, combining tragedies and comedies. Their version, written at the beginning of the 19th century, preserves the plots and tone of the originals with a simple style, and serves as a gateway to Shakespearean theatre for young readers.
Spanish edition of Tales from Shakespeare, in the Austral Juvenil collection and illustrated by Juan R. Alonso.
Recommended for readers aged 9 to 12 approaching Shakespeare for the first time.
Charles Lamb was an English essayist, poet, and antiquarian, best known for his Essays of Elia and for the children's book Tales from Shakespeare, co-authored with his sister, Mary Lamb (1764–1847).
