«Shadow of Night» is the second instalment of Deborah Harkness's All Souls fantasy trilogy, published by Hachette Books in paperback (672 pages, in English).
It continues the story of historian and witch Diana Bishop and vampire Matthew Clairmont after the events of «A Discovery of Witches». To flee the conflict between creatures, they travel to Elizabethan London in 1590, where they try to locate the Ashmole 782 manuscript and seek a witch to teach Diana to master her powers. There Matthew regains his identity as poet and spy and reunites with the radicals of the School of Night, including Christopher Marlowe.
It is part of the All Souls trilogy (All Souls 2). The saga continues with «The Book of Life», the third instalment of the trilogy.
