«Raízes: O campo na cidade» is the essay by Ana Sofia Fonseca, published by Fundação Francisco Manuel dos Santos in paperback (75 pages, in Portuguese).
The work explores how the countryside seeps into the city: vegetable gardens by the roads, traditional shepherds and balconies full of pots coexist with the urban landscape. Through these crops, the author portrays the city and reflects on the dominance of concrete, property speculation, rural exodus, urban growth and the return to the land.
Published in 2016, it is part of the Retratos da Fundação collection.
A work for those interested in urbanism, rural life and the Portuguese landscape.
