This is the second volume of 'Problems of General Linguistics' by Émile Benveniste, which brings together twenty important studies published between 1965 and 1972. These studies complement a broad introduction to the problematics of language. The first two articles, in the form of interviews, deal with the evolution of linguistics and recent changes in language doctrines. This is followed by the fundamental problem of communication and the sign, as well as the development of semiology of language. The notion of structure and that of function are the subject of the following studies, both the structure of language and the structure of society. Syntax is then addressed with nominal composition and auxiliary relations. Two studies aim to show how man is implicit in language, 'The antonym and the pronoun in modern French' and 'Form and meaning in language'. Finally, in the last chapters, the continuation of research on the genesis of certain cultural terms or important concepts such as the history of the term 'scientific', the study of 'blasphemy and euphemism' or the analysis of 'two linguistic models of the city' is found.
