«O lado selvagem» is the non-fiction account by Jon Krakauer, published by Editorial Presença in paperback, in Portuguese.
The book tells the true story of Christopher McCandless, a young man who, after finishing university, donates his money, changes his identity and travels across the United States in search of an authentic life away from consumerism. Imbued with the spirit of Thoreau and Jack London, he eventually ventures into Alaska, where his idealism clashes with the wilderness.
O lado selvagem is the Portuguese translation of Into the Wild, originally from 1996; a Presença edition from 2008. It received the Washington State Book Award and the Bancarella Sport Prize.
A read for those interested in travel stories, biographies and nature, with a protagonist who questions the modern lifestyle.
