«Mes sacrées tantes» is a collection of short stories by Bulbul Sharma, published by P. Picquier in paperback (262 pages, in French).
The collection brings together tales about courageous, exasperating and unpredictable aunts: one marries a man who can't stand being shorter than her; another seeks spiritual peace by climbing mountains; another works in a palace sinking into a swamp. With bittersweet irony, it portrays India before and after Gandhi, the position of women, and traditions and prejudices.
Stories translated from English (India) by Mélanie Basnel; the original work, «My Sainted Aunts», was published in 2002. The edition includes a glossary.
Suitable for readers interested in stories about India, family life and the condition of women.
