«Mariana» is the historical novel by Katherine Vaz, published by Ediciones Salamandra in paperback (398 pages, in Spanish).
Mariana Alcoforado, a Portuguese nun confined in a convent during Portugal's revolt against Spain in the 17th century, has a romance with a French cavalry officer. After being abandoned, she writes love letters that spread across Europe and make her an icon for creators such as Rilke, Stendhal, Matisse or Modigliani.
The Spanish translation is by Joan Soler Chic.
It is a read for those who enjoy historical novels and period romances.
