«Major Alverca» is a literary work by Rui Zink and Manuel João Ramos, published by Dom Quixote in paperback (184 pages, in Portuguese).
The book posits that the world is going through its worst moral crisis and presents Portugal as a country with infinite reserves of spirituality and natural lucidity, supposedly a testimony for future generations. It invites one to assume the national destiny and proclaim the proximity of the Fifth Empire.
Published in 2003, the book's cover shows a caricature-like character with a moustache and an object that resembles a pipe.
For readers interested in contemporary Portuguese literature and in works with an ironic point of view on national identity.
