Madlenka is a girl who lives in New York and is about to lose a tooth. To tell her friends, she decides to take a walk around the block, visiting each of her neighbors: the French baker, the Indian newspaper vendor, the Italian ice cream maker, the German lady, the Latin American greengrocer, and the Asian shopkeeper. Through her encounters, Madlenka discovers that the world is much bigger and more diverse than she imagined, turning her walk into a journey around the world.
This illustrated album book, with texts by Peter Sís and Carmen Diana Dearden, is a celebration of friendship, cultural diversity, and the ability of children to find magic in the everyday.
