Recently married, Rika tries with great humility to live up to the image she has of marital happiness, but soon perceives the inelegance of her husband. To regain some autonomy, she returns to the workforce and lands a job at a bank, where she manages savings products for elderly clients. When a young man crosses her path, Rika has already spiraled into a true addiction. Far from being a Hollywood heroine, this ordinary woman is on the verge of orchestrating one of the most significant scams of her time. With striking ferocity, Mitsuyo Kakuta explores the effects of Japanese society on female psychology, creating an unforgettable character who is terrifyingly close to us.
