«Los curas comunistas» is the novel by José Luis Martín Vigil, published by Círculo de Lectores in hardback, in Spanish.
The novel takes a sympathetic look at young priests who, by vocation and social commitment, leave the comfort of the parish to work in factories and on building sites, sharing the harshness of working-class life. It thus raises a debate about faith, personal initiative, and the Church’s relationship with the most disadvantaged in the Spain of the time.
A read for those interested in the role of the Church in the working-class world and in the Spanish narrative of social testimony.
