«Los años del miedo» is the historical essay by Juan Eslava Galán, published by Booket in paperback (572 pages, in Spanish).
The work reconstructs everyday life in postwar Spain: a Franco presiding over the parade with a borrowed decoration, children of prisoners going hungry, queues for ration books and civil service exams in which every correct answer is «Francisco Franco». Although it is history, it reads as briskly as a novel.
It is the second instalment of the series «Una historia de la guerra civil que no va a gustar a nadie». Published in 2009.
For those interested in postwar Spain seeking an entertaining and ironic reconstruction.
