«Les Contes de Canterbury», by Geoffrey Chaucer: a collection of tales in paperback (Gallimard, 819 pages, in French).
A group of pilgrims travelling to Canterbury passes the time on the road telling comic, spicy, moral and tragic stories in verse and prose. Chaucer uses the tales to portray medieval society and address power, money, love, sex, hypocrisy and science.
The work was composed around 1380. This French edition, published in 2000, is translated and edited by André Crépin and is part of the folio classique collection.

Geoffrey Chaucer was an English poet, writer and civil servant best known for The Canterbury Tales. He has been called the 'father of English literature', or alternatively, the 'father of English poetry'. He was the first writer to be buried in what has since become Poets' Corner in Westminster Abbey.
