«Le Scribe» is the philosophical essay by Régis Debray on the genesis of the political, published by Grasset in French.
Régis Debray analyses the genesis of the political and the role of the scribe as mediator between power and writing. From this figure, he studies how the written letter helps to fix memory, legitimise authority and organise collective life.
The work originally appeared in 1980 and is part of the 'Essais' series.
