«L'album de famille» is the novel by Suzanne Prou, published by Grasset in paperback (133 pages, in French).
A narrator finds at a second-hand market a family photo album from another era. All the images bear a name, except one: the portrait of an older, beautiful woman, unidentified. From that anonymous photo, Suzanne Prou imagines her fate and that of all the album's characters, who step out of their frames and come to life.
Originally published in 1994, it bears the subtitle 'roman' on the cover; the first edition was published in Paris.
A read for those seeking French fiction from the nineties about memories and lives imagined from old photographs.
Suzanne Prou was a French novelist. She won the 1973 Prix Renaudot, for The Bernardini Terrace.
