Lucas Pereyra travels from Buenos Aires to Montevideo in search of money he cannot receive in his country, trying to escape a marriage in crisis. On the other side of the river, a woman awaits him, but things don't happen as he expected, turning the getaway into a confrontation with the truth. This novel, narrated with an intimate voice, explores the fissures of a relationship in crisis, inviting reflection on unfulfilled promises and the differences between what we are and what we aspired to be. Considered a fundamental work of contemporary literature, it has consolidated Pedro Mairal as one of the great voices of current narrative.
