«La Pierre de Rosette» is the historical essay by Robert Solé and Dominique Valbelle, published by Points in paperback (256 pages, in French).
It recounts the discovery in 1799, during Napoleon's campaign in Egypt, of a granite stele bearing the same text inscribed in Greek, Demotic and hieroglyphs. It describes the struggle to possess it, its transfer to London and the race to decipher it, resolved by Champollion, which made it possible to read the writing of ancient Egypt for the first time.
It is part of the Points Histoire collection (no. 396); this edition is from 2008 and the work originally appeared in 1999.
Aimed at those interested in the history of Egypt, archaeology and the decipherment of ancient scripts.
